Renowned pianist gives gift of music to Birmingham school

Posted: Updated:

One elementary school in Birmingham lost its music program this year due to budget cuts. And a renowned musician knew that just wouldn't do. So, Daniel Cason gave the gift of music  back to Hill  Elementary School. Cason helped organize a school holiday program Wednesday.

Cason,  an ordained minister and concert pianist, has traveled the world even performed for the Pope. He says his decision to start music again at Hill began about a month ago. He is founder of the Kids Christian Music Center, which is about two blocks from the school, and around Thanksgiving he reached out to the principal and discovered the school did not have a music program.

So for the past two weeks, Cason has been teaching voice and music to the students, free of charge.

"Children ought to be exposed to the arts, and it's sad, I must say, that there's not any music in this school. If God gives me the strength, I'm going to put a music program in this school for these precious children," Cason says.
