Local church offers comfort for children after Connecticut massacre

BIRMINGHAM - AL -

K through 5th graders at Double Oak Community church are fully aware of the Connecticut school massacre that took the lives of 20 children.

Roughly 50 children kneeled down to pray and listened to a lesson about compassion from our very own James Spann. He broke the silence and provided comfort and reassurance by telling the children that their school will be okay.

All the while, the children continue to cope by talking about the tragic events in Newtown. By reflecting on the difficulty of trying to understand why such tragedies happen. One 10 year old says, "It really just broke my heart because it's really close to Christmas."

We know that talking to children about the shooting can be difficult. You can visit the link below for advice on ways to go about it.
