Local schools are adding security in response to last Friday's
tragedy in Connecticut at an elementary school.
Tuscaloosa County Sheriff Ted Sexton
says each Tuscaloosa County elementary school will have deputies and other
resources assigned to the schools Monday.
Sheriff Sexton expressed his sympathy on the
shooting and assured Tuscaloosa parents schools will be safe by stating "My
heart and prayers goes out to Sandy Hook Elementary School. I have heard the
concerns of parents in Tuscaloosa County." He went on to say that the Sheriff's
Office is committed with the School Board to provide safety to students.
Jefferson County will also provide heightened security to
schools to alleviate fears and concerns. The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office
says starting Monday morning, a deputy will be stationed at every Jefferson County
school until the holiday break.
