Heflin, Oxford shooting suspect apprehended in Coldwater; 1 child dead (Updates)

Several law enforcement agencies are currently working a shooting incident near the Oxford Exchange Shopping Center and Leon Smith Parkway.

Numerous calls to ABC 33/40 have reported multiple gunshots and at least one shooting victim in the area. Oxford Police would not confirm or deny the shooting, but said they were en route to the area.

Update #1:

The Anniston Police Department released a BOLO notice on their Facebook page moments ago for a male suspect wanted for an officer involved shooting in Oxford:

"URGENT BOLO: Hispanic Male, 1997 Nissan 200 SX, silver. Pink Alabama sticker on rear of vehicle. Alabama tag 7A14B18. Wanted in Officer involved shooting in Oxford."

Update #2:

A source familiar with the situation says a Heflin Police officer was shot in Oxford following a pursuit of the suspect, which began on Highway 9 in Cleburne County.

The condition of the officer is unknown at this time.

Update #3:

The suspect has been apprehended near Highway 78 in Coldwater.

Source says the incident began after the subject was stopped by a Cleburne County Sheriff's deputy on Highway 9 near the former Tyson Chicken Plant. The suspect fired shots at the deputy's vehicle before fleeing to Oxford.

Upon being stopped in Oxford near the Exchange Shopping Center, the suspect shot a Heflin Police officer and fled in a carjacked vehicle on Highway 78 heading west before being taken down in Coldwater.

Update #4:

The Oxford Police Department has confirmed that three people were shot in Heflin, including a small child. The child is deceased. The conditions of the other two victims are unknown. The suspect was shot and killed by Oxford SWAT Team members after being stopped on Beck Road in Coldwater. The Heflin Police officer that was shot is currently in surgery at Regional Medical Center in Anniston being treated for a leg wound. The officer's injuries are considered non-life threatening. The Oxford Police Chief believes the shootings stemmed from a domestic incident.
