Victoryland casino prepares to re-open

Posted: Updated:

Victoryland casino owner Milton McGregor has installed more than 1,000 gambling machines in anticipation of reopening what was once the state's largest casino.
Macon County Sheriff David Warren said Wednesday he's seen the machines and considers them legal electronic bingo. A gaming expert with BMM Test Labs of Las Vegas, Rich Williamson says the company has tested the software for the machines and it complies with Alabama law.
Victoryland had 6,000 machines before closing in 2010 under pressure from the governor's gambling task force.  The casino maintained that its games were legal electronic bingo, but the task force labeled them illegal slots.
The old machines took cash. The new machines require players to use an electronic card similar to an ATM card.
