The National Weather Service has confirmed an EF-1 tornado damaged several houses and businesses along Finley Avenue and 24th Avenue North early this morning.
Severe weather toppled trees and damaged several houses and businesses around 4:45 am. A church on 24th Avenue North suffered severe damage as well.
"The whole house caved in," recalled resident Diane Waters whose house suffered extensive roof damage. "It was raining all inside the house."
Alabama Power worked to restore power in the area. Power was restored to the majority of customers by 3 pm Monday. Alabama Power said it cannot safely restore power to a few structures at this time.
No injuries were reported.
