Jefferson County Deputies and West Jefferson Fire Department responding to a vacant house fire in the 4000 block of Alexander Road discovered a meth. lab at the house.

Upon arrival, Deputies encountered 43 year old Danny Ray Stevens at the residence. Stevens was extremely nervous and acting erratically. He was walking in and out of and standing on the porch. He told responders that there was no fire and they should not enter the home.  Stevens was found to be in possession of pills containing hydrocodone.

In a bedroom where the fire was said to have started, deputies and firefighters discovered a table that had several candles on it and had been dowsed with salsa to extinguish a fire. Further inspection of the residence revealed an active meth lab.
