That's right, December is National Fruitcake Month. A whole 31 days is dedicated to the admiration of the nut and candied fruit culinary concoction.
You can blame the ancient Romans for the invention of the fruitcake. The first known recipe included pomegranate seeds, raisins and pine nuts.
Traditional fruitcakes were soaked in brandy to preserve them and prevent mold, though most mass-produced fruitcakes don't come with alcohol these days.
