The
holidays are a time when most people get together with friends and family to
relax and reminisce. Cancer, however, doesn't take a holiday.
The
American Cancer Society information line is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a
week, even on holidays. It offers information and support for cancer patients, family members, friends of cancer
patients, and others who have questions about cancer.
In 2012 fiscal year, cancer information specialists answered more than 8,950 calls
from Alabama patients, caregivers, volunteers and information seekers.
By calling
the National Cancer Information Center (NCIC) at 1-800-227-2345, patients can
speak to an information specialist and receive information on various types of
cancer, cancer treatments, how to manage symptoms, prevention and detection
guidelines, and many other topics. The NCIC can then contact a local American
Cancer Society office to provide local cancer resources, such as support
groups, patient service programs, and social services.
