T-Town Rundown: What's Happening Around the Tulsa Area Today

Here's a list of things happening in the Tulsa area on Tuesday.

As always, follow KTUL.com for full-length coverage on larger stories occurring in the area, state and nation. The following events are just some of those happening Tuesday with updates posted throughout the morning as we send out crews and reporters to stories we're working on for our evening newscasts.

 

Flu season: the Washington County Health Department wants to remind residents that it's that time of the year again. Get your flu shots now and save yourself the trouble later on during National Influenza Vaccination Week.

Oklahoma's 2nd District: Congressman-elect Markwayne Mullin will continue his "Listening Tour" Tuesday as he makes stops in Okemah, Sallisaw Stilwell and Tahlequah.  He'll be a several locations through Friday as he speaks to his constituents. Veterans: The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is holding a job fair for veteran job seekers, active duty military members, guard and reserve members, and military spouses. The "Hiring Our Heroes" event will take place at Central Park Hall in Tulsa on Dec. 4 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Expo Square: Those interested in attending a book signing also can head to the Expo Square's Central Park Hall. There, author Vicki Hidde will sign copies of her book "Capturing Success: By Connecting the Job Search Dots." The signing will take place during the veterans career fair.

Cherry Street: December is "National Impaired Driving Awareness Month" and Missy's Keys4Cabs will host a press conference at the Fullmoon Cafe from 2 p.m. until 3 p.m. The non-profit aims at reducing or eliminating impaired driving deaths and injuries by providing liquor-licensed businesses with free cab ride vouchers for customers who have had too much to drink.

EMSA: Christmas trees are out in full-force. And with it bring new dangers inside your home whether you have a real or artificial tree. EMSA just release helpful tips to enjoy your tree while also staying safe this season. Check back on KTUL.com as we post their full release.

Tulsa: Webster and Memorial high school students are teaming up with AT&T employees to participate in the AT&T / JA Worldwide Job Shadow Initiative, a five-year effort to increase high school retention and workforce readiness. The students will shadow the employees through the morning in order to learn the importance of graduating from high school.

Fashion: The Salvation Army will be hosting its Fashion Show around 12:30 p.m. at the Tulsa Convention Center Ballroom. Channel 8's Kristin Dickerson, Laura Moss and Caitlin Alexander will be present with a silent auction and lunch prior to the fashion show.

    An independent film crew is in Montevallo this weekend to shoot scenes for an upcoming feature.The movie is titled "Union" and is about a "female" confederate soldier in the civil war.Whitney Hamilton wrote the screenplay.
