BIRMINGHAM - AL -
An Alabama Bureau of Investigation continues into a shooting downtown that involved members of Birmingham Mayor William Bell's security team.
ABC 33/40 has confirmed the incident happened last night on I-59 at the 22nd Street Exit.
People in a vehicle next to the mayor's car started shooting at a third vehicle. After that, a chase ensued.
Two Birmingham Police officers opened fire.
One male and a female, who are suspects, were taken to University Hospital for treatment of gunshot wounds.
A third suspect was taken into custody for questioning. The incident caused parts of I-59 to shut down for a few hours Friday night.
The Birmingham Police Department has now turned things over to the ABI.
