Doctor pleads guilty to health fraud

    The Etowah County Sheriff's Office says an inmate kitchen worker escaped the Etowah County Detention Center Friday morning. 

A Lauderdale County physician has pleaded guilty to nearly $1 million in fraud. 55-year-old Diana McCutcheon of Killen pleaded guilty to health care fraud and wire fraud. The charges involved billing Blue Cross Blue Shield and Medicare for cosmetic skin treatments that weren't reimbursable. That included treatments for sun spots, age spots and wrinkles that were billed as removal of skin lesions. She agreed to forfeit more than $990,000 to the government from her illegal activity.

McCutcheon is scheduled for sentencing March 11th. Health care fraud carries a sentence of up to 10 years and a $250,000 fine. Wire fraud carries a sentence of up to 20 years and a $250,000 fine.
