State Rep. John Knight is denying allegations of financial misconduct leveled by suspended Alabama State University President Joseph Silver. Silver made the claims as he was being suspended with pay by an executive committee of the university's trustees on Monday. He said there is financial wrongdoing at the school, but didn't elaborate.
Silver claimed he was suspended after he decided to fire Knight, who is executive vice president at the university, and another administrator. But Knight said Tuesday he received no notice from Silver that he was being fired. And he says Silver didn't discuss any allegations of wrongdoing with him. Knight's news conference was interrupted by students chanting "Bring Silver Back" throughout a university building.
Trustees hired Silver in June. He's served as president about two months.
