Anonymous tip leads to meth lab bust

Posted: Updated:

An anonymous tip into the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office turned into a meth lab bust on Sunday.

Just before 7:00 PM,  the Sheriff's Office received a call that a subject was in the process of
making methamphetamine at a residence in the 1100 block of Heflin Avenue West in Forestdale. Deputies responded and found 39 year old Robert Allen Horton in the driveway.

Deputies searched him.  They found used filters and methamphetamine in his pocket.

Deputies received permission from the property owner to search the residence for active meth labs. As they opened a shed attached to the garage, deputies say a plume of white smoke and a strong chemical odor rolled out.

The deputies evacuated the area of the shed and set up a perimeter to make sure no one was endangered.

Narcotics investigators were called to the scene to process the lab.

Horton was arrested for Unlawful Manufacture of a Controlled Substance, Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance and Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. He is currently in the
Jefferson County Jail with bonds totaling $65,000.
