Your Health 11-13-12 Acetaminophen may be linked to asthma

Posted: Updated:

Acetaminophen, the most common over-the-counter drug used to treat pain and fever, may be linked to asthma in babies.

A new study finds that giving the drug to infants may heighten their risk of asthmatic symptoms.

The Danish study monitored more than 400 children.  Those who received the most acetaminophen were more likely to have wheezing, breathlessness or chronic coughing in early childhood.

The study does not prove that acetaminophen causes the symptoms.

It does suggest the need for more research into a possible connection.
