Children's of Alabama statement on staph infection

Posted: Updated:
BIRMINGHAM - AL -

A Walker County couple got the news they'd been praying for- their newborn son no longer has flesh eating bacteria.

The bacteria was a type of staph infection they believe their son, Korbin Kennedy, contracted it from a lumbar puncture.

Privacy laws prevent the hospital from talking about Korbin Kennedy specifically. But the hospital issued a statement saying, "Our thoughts and prayers are, of course, with the family, and the health and wellbeing of our patients is our utmost priority. Children's of Alabama follows Centers for Disease Control and prevention guidelines to prevent the spread of infection within our facility. Due to Federal privacy laws, we are unable to share any information about the care of specific patients."

Korbin's parents say their son was taken to the hospital with a fever of 100.4 degrees when he was just five days old. He was later transferred to Shriners Hospital in Cincinnati. That is where he is currently being treated.

His parents say he could get a skin graph as early as this week.
