Walmart is gearing up for early Black Friday

Posted: Updated:

Walmart is kicking off its "Black Friday" deal on Thanksgiving Day. It's the earliest the world's largest retailer has ever jump-started its holiday sales bonanza.  The deals kick into high gear at 8:00 p.m. Thanksgiving Day and new offers will be introduced at 10:00 p.m. followed by more discounts offered on Black Friday at 5:00 a.m.

If any of these items happen to sell out before the allotted times, Walmart will offer a "guarantee card" for the item, which has to be paid for by midnight and registered online. The product will then be shipped to the store where it was purchased for the customer to pick up before Christmas.

Walmart plans to run a separate sale online.  As a new feature this year, Walmart customers who sign up for emails, like its facebook wall or download the retailer's mobile app, will be among the first to get early access to special deals and information.

The store says the new hours are in response to customers who want to shop early so they can hit the sack after eating all that turkey.  However, the earlier hours aren't setting well with all employees of the retailer.  Some stores are dealing with protests in various U.S. Cities.  Some workers have planned to walk off the job on Black Friday. Several demonstrations are sponsored by groups including "OUR Walmart," which receives union support.
