Republican Roy Moore is preparing to make his victory speech after becoming the Chief Justice of the Alabama Supreme Court following challenger Bob Vance's concession.

With 96 percent of the precincts reporting, Moore had 52 percent of the votes with a total of 1,004,115 to Vance's 926,160.

Moore served as the Chief Justice from 2001 to 2003 before being removed from his position for refusing a federal judge's order to remove a Ten Commandments monument outside the Alabama Judicial Building in Montgomery.

Vance, a Democrat, is currently a Jefferson County Circuit Court judge.  In his concession speech, Vance thanked his family and supporters for their help in what he called "an uphill battle."

Bill Armistead, Chairman of the Alabama Republican Party, issued the following statement regarding the results for the race for Chief Justice of the Alabama Supreme Court:

"I want to congratulate Judge Moore. There is no question that he was the candidate in this race who best represented conservative, Alabama values. I am pleased to know that we will have such a knowledgeable, experienced and capable person at the head of the Alabama Supreme Court."
