Some voters found long lines at their local polling sites on Tuesday, forcing many to wait as long as three hours to cast their ballot.

At an Irondale senior center, the line to vote has stretched for blocks and the city's mayor has said people there can expect to wait possibly fours to turn in a ballot on Tuesday night.

Long lines formed at the Hoover Recreation Center and St. Thomas Episcopal Church, and in Vestavia Hills, a broken counter machine caused a two-hour wait at the Horizon Church.

The long waits aren't just happening in Alabama though.  Voters across the nation are experiencing long lines with early reports of high voter turnout.

Polls close at 7 p.m.
