Katherine Wickstrom has seen a few presidential elections in her lifetime, in fact, she has voted in a total of 20 since 1936.

Wickstrom, 100, voted in Tuesday's election 76 years after casting her very first presidential ballot in 1936.  That year, she voted for Republican candidate and Kansas Governor Alfred "Alf" Landon, who was defeated by Democrat Franklin D. Roosevelt running for a second term. FDR was re-elected after carrying every state except two, earning a little over 60 percent of the nation's votes.

Wickstrom, who was born on April 29, 1912, moved to Birmingham in the 1940's from Negaunee, Michigan after her husband took an engineering job at U.S. Steel. She has five children, eight grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

Wickstrom lived on her own and was completely self-sufficient until the age of 98.  She is now the oldest resident at an independent living apartment at St. Martins in the Pines.
