The Samford football team held its
final full practice of the week with a one-hour workout in shorts and
helmets Thursday afternoon at Seibert Stadium. The Bulldogs are
preparing for the final home game of the 2012 season Saturday against
sixth-ranked Wofford.
Wofford enters the game with a record of 7-1 overall and 5-1 in Southern
Conference play. Samford and Wofford are meeting for the 10th time,
with Samford holding a 5-4 advantage in the series. The teams last met
on Sept. 24, 2011, with Wofford coming away with a 38-23 win in
Spartanburg, S.C.
Samford head coach Pat Sullivan said he has been impressed with what he has seen from Wofford on film this week.
"Wofford is an outstanding football team with a great running back (Eric
Breitenstein)," Sullivan said. "He's one of the top running backs in
the country. They are a well-coached team, and we'll have to be at the
top of our game to have a chance."
Samford is currently 5-3 overall and 3-3 in SoCon play. The Bulldogs
took last week off from competition. The team last played on Oct. 20,
falling at Chattanooga, 20-13. Sullivan said he felt good about the week
of preparation his team has had.
"We've had a good week of practice," Sullivan said. "I'm excited about
this weekend. It's the last home game for our seniors, who have meant a
lot to our program. I'm looking forward to the game."
