Surgeons and chefs compete in pumpkin carving contest

BIRMINGHAM - AL -

Surgeons and chefs had a spooky good time using their carving skills early Saturday morning. St. Vincent's Health System and Pepper Place Saturday Market hosted Chefs v. Surgeons Pumpkin Carving Contest for the second year in a row. The contestants were judged on who could carve the most creative and festive pumpkin in thirty minutes. Dr. Thomas Holley, urologist at St. Vincent's Birmingham, was declared winner with his pumpkin creation. Dr. Holley was presented with a basket full of local produce provided by the market.

Other participants included defending champion Chef Clif Holt with Little Savannah, Chef Jeffrey Hansell with Veranda on Highland, and Dr. Brenda Taylor, OB/GYN at St. Vincent's Birmingham.

Children enjoyed pumpkin decorating, face paintings, and free mini pumpkins.
