South Carolina running back Marcus Lattimore suffered a gruesome knee injury on Saturday during the second quarter of the Gamecocks game against Tennessee.

Lattimore, who had his sophomore season cut short in 2011 after tearing the ACL in his left knee, was carted off the field after taking a hit to his right knee from Eric Gordon, a junior defensive back for the Volunteers.  The Gamecocks' training staff immediately rushed to Lattimore's aid following the tackle, attempting to stabilize him as he lay in agonizing pain.

South Carolina head coach Steve Spurrier commented on the injury as he left the field at halftime.

"It looked severe on the field," Spurrier said. "But we'll have to wait and see."

Severe would be an understatement.

Videos of the ghastly injury have already been uploaded to YouTube.

Lattimore burst onto the college football season as a freshman in 2010, rushing for 1,149 yards and 17 touchdowns.  Before his injury against Tennessee, he had totaled 667 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns on the year and was considered by many to be a potential first-round NFL draft pick if he chose to leave school early after this season.

It appears now he'll be staying for his senior year in Columbia.
