AEA urges "No" vote on Amendment 4

Posted: Updated:

The Alabama Education Association says people should vote "No" on Amendment 4.  That amendment would remove racist language from Alabama's Constitution, but it would also restate language that inhibits integration.  That language was added in 1956.  The racist language to be removed provided for separate schools by race and for poll taxes.

The AP reports that language says there is no right to a public education in Alabama. AEA also fears that the amendment could lead to money for education being diverted to other uses.
