Person wearing devil mask robs two Jefferson County businesses; one critically injured

JEFFERSON COUNTY - AL -

A man wearing a devil mask and armed with a rifle is believed to have shot a person while robbing a Clay convenience store late Friday night. Jefferson County Sheriff's deputies say a masked man entered Rogers convenience store located at 6700 block of Old Springville Road near Center Point around 11:10 p.m. He was armed with a rifle and took an unknown amount of money from the store. The suspect left the store and ran towards Clay Palmerdale Road. A person chased the suspect across the street and was shot in the stomach area. The victim was transported to UAB and is in critical condition.

Deputies believe the same suspect was involved in a robbery that occurred at the Winn Dixie located in the 2400 block of Old Springville Road at around 10:45 p.m. A white van may have been used as a getaway vehicle during the Winn Dixie robbery.
