Former Secretary of State must pay $100 fine

MONTGOMERY - AL -

The vice chairman of the Alabama Democratic Party, former Secretary of State Nancy Worley, got fined $100 for soliciting campaign support from her office staff during her last re-election bid.
Her attorney, James Anderson, said Worley entered a "best interest" plea to one misdemeanor count Friday, and prosecutors agreed to drop four other misdemeanor charges and five felony charges.
The charges stem from campaign material she sent to employees in the secretary of state's office in 2006 that included a donation envelope and bumper sticker. She lost that election to Republican Beth Chapman.
Anderson said Worley did not admit to any wrongdoing, but agreed to settle the case so she could move on with her life after having the charges pending for more than five years.
