HANCEVILLE - AL -
"Coach Miller, you are a racist and you don't deserve to be in front of these kids," Roger Harris said.
Harris wants Hanceville High School football coach, Danny Miller, to resign.
Harris says earlier this year, Miller made racial slurs to one of his son's friends on the football team, who is African American.
"Telling a kid when they were going to a church function to have dinner that he didn't know if blacks were allowed in this church," Harris said. "If they're not, don't worry, we'll feed you some scraps. If you do get to come in, you can sit on the floor."
Harris says because of those comments, the player the coach allegedly referred to has quit the team.
Superintendent Billy Coleman couldn't talk specifics about the case.
"We take any allegation like that very seriously," Coleman said.
Coleman says they investigate all allegations and, depending on what they find, it will be dealt with.
Harris says that's not good enough.
He wants Miller off the team and out of the school system.
"He should be setting the example for [players] and the example he's setting by making those comments...pretty much says to me 'That's OK'," Harris said.
ABC 33/40 tried contacting Coach Miller. He has not returned our phone calls.
