ANNISTON - AL -
Surviving Freedom Riders returned to Calhoun County for a groundbreaking for the long talked about Freedom Riders Park. The park commemorates the 1961 fire bombing attack on a bus carrying young civil rights activists who attempted to test interstate bus segregation.
Project organizers say $100,000 has been committed to Freedom Riders Park. Plans are underway to raise $2 million for the 4.5 acre park. A major fund raising effort will feature a star -studded event in Atlanta within the next 6 months.
