The Birmingham Board of Education announced on Thursday that it will begin accepting letters of interest from qualified candidates seeking to fill the vacancy for the position of School Board Member, District 4.
The opening is a result of Edward Maddox resigning his position as Board President on Tuesday after being arrested for using his public office for personal gain. Click here for Maddox story.
Interested candidates should refer to the Lewis Spratt Act to obtain information relative to the qualifications of this position, as well as the School Board Governance Improvement Act to review the applicable duties and responsibilities. Both of these Acts have been posted on the Birmingham Board of Education's website. Click here to visit BOE website.
All qualified individuals should forward a letter of interest, as well as a resume to the attention of Afrika Parchman, General Counsel for Birmingham City Schools at 2015 Park Place, Birmingham, AL 35203. All information must be received by the close of business on October 31, 2012. The selection process will begin after that time, and no further applications will be considered.
