BIRMINGHAM - AL -
Cooper Green Mercy Hospital supporters are now turning to God for help. Thursday, a local pastor joined the fight to save in-patient care at the hospital.
Supporters' cries for assistance have now turned into prayers for Jefferson County Commissioner David Carrington to change his mind and ask for a another vote on the issue.
"I want to tell him- God can always change things, so that's not true," said Representative John Rogers, (D) Birmingham.
Commissioner George Bowman made a similar plea earlier this week.
But others say the model is broken and has to change.
Cooper Green supporters continue to argue the hospital is in the black and could operate under a healthcare authority with current indigent care dollars if in-patient care is downsized.
But the county maintains the hospital is in the red. Final numbers from this past fiscal year are still being collected, but county officials say it appears as if the hospital is facing a several million dollar deficit.
