Toys R Us is extending its free layaway plan. The toy company began offering free layaway in early September, and was set to resume its five dollar service fee after Halloween. However, the company now says it decided to extend the program through December 16th. Company executives made the decision after seeing its popularity with customers.
The free layaway applies to gift items such toys, video games and swing sets and requires a 20 percent down payment. Layaway plans have become more popular lately due to uncertainty in the economy.
Wal-Mart and Kmart have also upped the ante with their layaway programs.
