Domestic violence impact on children

Posted: Updated:

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

Millions of families deal with physical and verbal abuse that often occurs behind closed doors. In fact, studies show children who experience or witness the abuse deal with effects, sometimes into adulthood. Being raised in an abusive, unhealthy household can increase a child's risk of eventually using drugs, committing crimes, or becoming abusers. That's why many groups and law enforcement agencies are hosting events throughout the month to draw awareness and break the cycle.

Jerra Dooley, founder of Gratefull Ministries, uses a faith-based approach to counsel and help battered women.
