The Etowah County Sheriff's Office says an inmate kitchen worker escaped the Etowah County Detention Center Friday morning.

The Hoover Police Department is attempting to located two suspects that they believe is preying on the elderly.

On October 2, Hoover Police was notified by an elderly man that his wallet had been stolen, but he was unsure where the theft had occurred.  His stolen credit cards were used to purchase over $13,000 in merchandise at several stores in Hoover and Birmingham in a three hour period on the same day of the theft.

It appears that the victim was at a doctor's office, and the theft occurred in an elevator.

According to police, the theft happens when one suspect distracts the victim by falling to the floor and when the victim moves to help the "injured", the second suspect steals the victim's wallet.

Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Kevin Parkinson, at (205) 444-7562.
