Pelham City Council addressing flooding problem

Posted: Updated:

The Pelham City Council made a move Monday night to dry out flooding problems.

High water has been an issue in the Saddle Run area, and Monday night the city council held a first reading of a proposal to match FEMA money for a Highway 261 drainage project.

Councilors unanimously approved the match.

Two existing detention ponds will be enlarged. One is located south of Aaron Road and the other is south of the Saddle Run neighborhood.

Two new detention ponds will also be added near the Alabama Power Company sub station.

Construction should begin within 90 days.
