Potential for lightning and heavy rain in Columbia during Alabama, Missouri game (Update)

Posted: Updated:

Bill Murray recently updated the weather forecast for Alabama's 2:30 p.m. game at Missouri, and he mentioned the possibility of heavy rain and lightning in the area around game time.

"There will be lots of heavy rain and unfortunately lightning at times. Look for lightning delays. It will be breezy, with a strong south wind averaging 10-20 mph."

However, Murray did say "good news is that the threat of severe weather during the game is low, but lightning and heavy rain will potentially be a big problem at times during the game."

We'll continue to follow the weather and provide updates.

From Bill Murray:

"Extrapolation puts the storms to the southwest over Columbia in about 2-3 hours, or just about kickoff. Off and on showers and storms are likely during the game. Lightning is also likely, so there is a good chance that there will be lightning delays.

"The better chance for severe weather in Missouri will come late tonight as a squall line forms ahead of a cold front and pushes east."

From James Spann at 3:48 p.m.

"The Bama game should resume in about 20-25 minutes. But, more storms later. Maybe by the fourth quarter."

From James Spann at 4:12 p.m.

"Rain stopping now in Columbia; more storms before the game is over. Might take a long time to get this one in."
