Investigators Plan to Show University of South Alabama Campus Shooting Surveillance Video

Posted: Updated:

Investigators plan to show the news media surveillance video of the campus police shooting death of a naked University of Southern Alabama student. Mobile County Sheriff Sam Cochran says the video will be shown Thursday afternoon and should answer questions about why officer Trevis Austin shot 18-year-old Gil Collar early Saturday.

Collar was unarmed. Investigators say he had taken LSD at a music festival in Mobile and was having a drug-induced meltdown when he banged on the glass of the campus police station.  Investigators say Austin came out of the station with his weapon drawn and shot and killed Collar after the student got too close to his weapon.  Other university students have protested the shooting.
An attorney for Collar's parents has said he will hold a news conference Thursday morning.
