Gene Chizik talks about Ole Miss on SEC Coaches Teleconference

Posted: Updated:

Opening statement...

"This is very different Ole Miss team than we have seen in the last couple of years.  They're doing a great job coaching over there, and really they've done a great job competing on the field, and it shows.  This is going to be another great SEC challenge for us, and we've got our work cut out for us because they are playing with a lot of confidence and they are playing with a lot of energy.  It's going to be a great crowd for them, homecoming, and this will be a big challenge for us.

On quarterback situation...

"We're going to go through tonight's practice and evaluate everything.  It won't be a game time decision, it will be before that.  We've got two big days of practice, two big work days, during the week usually on Wednesday.  There's a good chance it could be after we evaluate both these practices tonight, but it certainly won't go until game time."

On Clint Moseley's shoulder...

"It may not be 100 percent, but I feel like it is close. It's certainly feeling better than it felt.

On freshman offensive lineman Patrick Miller...

"Patrick worked extremely hard and is one of those guys that was slowly but surely getting better.  He's a competitor.  Two weeks ago we decided to let him be the starter at LSU because we felt like he earned the right to be."

On struggling with early morning games...

"Early morning kicks don't have anything to do with us.  We gotta play if they kick it off at 8 o'clock in the morning.  We have a routine and it is one that we have been using every year I have been a head coach.  Time of the day doesn't have anything to do with the performances we've put on the field.  It's all about execution and that's where we gotta improve."

On Ole Miss as a team...

"This is a very confident team and a very well-coached team.  They're going to get better and better, but they are having fun playing the game.  They had al their chances to put that game away last week against [Texas A&M], and I'm sure there are some things they would like to take back, but the energy of how they are playing, they just look like a different team.  They're young, but they're very talented and they have some players in some key positions that are extremely difficult to defend offensively, and defensively, boy, they just play really hard.  That defensive line they got, their starters don't have great size, but they make up for everything with their energy, and how hard they play and the passion they play with.  They are a very impressive unit, both sides of the ball."

On Ole Miss quarterback Bo Wallace...

"This guy is a good quarterback.  He can run it, he can throw it, and he's a big guy.  He's a tough guy to defend.

On Auburn running game...

"We'd like to get a running back in a groove in a game, and continue to give him the ball, but we've got a couple different guys that are suited for different things with what we are doing offensively.  Some guys are more perimeter guys, some guys are more inside guys so we've gotta use our personnel to the best of our ability based on what they can do.  You always wanna have a guy that can get into a groove of a game, there's no question about that."

On one running back helping continuity on offense...

"I don't know if one guy at the running back position helps with continuity, I think what it does more of is it gives a tailback an opportunity to get into a rhythm, and get the vision, and get the feel of the game more so than if he is playing more sporadically."
