Maurice Mercer becomes Pelham's first African-American City Councilman

Maurice Mercer (abc3340.com)

Maurice Mercer won the Pelham City Council Seat 4 election on Tuesday night over Jim Phillips, making him the city's first African-American city councilman.

Mercer tallied 809 of the 1,060 votes to Phillips' 251.
