LEEDS - AL -

The City of Leeds has a new mayor.

Challenger David Miller easily beat incumbent Eric Patterson.

He won by a nearly two to one ratio, with a final tally of 1662 to 847.

Miller's victory was announced with loud cheers from family, friends and well wishers outside the Leeds Civic Center.

Now, Miller says he is ready to get to work with the city council and says Leeds has the ability to continue to grow.

"I really thank all the people who worked so hard for me. There were a lot of them and the results show that. I'm delighted to have the opportunity to work with this great council and move this city forward," says the mayor-elect.

Miller takes office on November 5.

He says the first order of business is to continue to develop around the outlet mall.

Also, there was history made Tuesday night in Leeds, as DeVoris Ragland becomes the first African-American woman voted to Leeds City Council.

A very emotional Ragland said, "I think that, People are ready for a change. And hard work does pay off. I'm just happy."
