"What's up with that?" - Car Seat Safety

Posted: Updated:

Each day, we ask two questions on ABC 33/40's Facebook page.

"What do you want to know about?" "What issues concern you?" We take those questions and concerns and work to find the answers, in a segment we call "What's Up With That."

Jennifer Williams wrote "I have a concern with parents these days being ignorant to the rules of car seat safety! think it is something that should really be brought to people's attention more. I see children buckled incorrectly all the time or even front-facing way before they should be!"

Well, here are some resources out there for parents.

Children's of Alabama, hosts car seat safety checks the first and third Tuesday of every month.

The American Society of Pediatrics says it is important to keep children rear facing in a car seat until their second birthday.

Alabama state law says to keep a child rear facing until they turn one or weigh 20 pounds.

Safety experts say proper car seat installation could mean the difference between life or death for a child.

If you are a parent wanting to learn more about proper car seat installation, or if you'd like to get rid of your current car seat.

Children's of Alabama will put you in touch with a certified car seat installation center closest to you.

For more information, you can call 1-800-504-9768 or visit Children's of Alabama's website here.
