Next week, WalMart and American Express roll out a new way to bank without a bank.
It's a new prepaid money card called Bluebird. The program acts like a checking account, but without fees. There will be no minimum balance, annual fees, or overdraft charges.
Customers can deposit a check by taking a picture of it with a smart phone. Bluebird will offer the same fraud protections as other credit and debit cards. Analysts say Bluebird shows just how the financial service landscape is changing.
Bluebird will be available next week online and in more than 4,000 Walmart stores.
