The Birmingham Jefferson County Transit Authority (BJCTA) voted, Tuesday, to hire Ann Dawson-August to serve as its new Executive Director. The decision comes after a nationwide search to recruit an executive director that could lead BJCTAs efforts to develop the best transit system in the nation.
"The board was committed to hiring an individual with experience, that was knowledgeable about all facets of transit, and who had a proven track record of success managing and operating a transit system," said Joyce E. Brooks, chairman of the BJCTA board of directors.
"We are confident in Mrs. August ability to lead the efforts in building a transit system that the entire community can be proud of."
Dawson-August has worked over 30 years in the transportation industry. She is currently the Executive Director for the Santee Wateree Regional Transportation Authority in South Carolina. Prior to that, she spent 13 years at the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority, which is the fifth largest transit authority in the U. S.
"I am looking forward to serving as the Executive Director of the Birmingham-Jefferson County Transit Authority," .
"Transportation is my passion, and has been for the past 32 years. I am truly ready to hit the ground running, and to start establishing more partnerships that will help the BJCTA Team turn the page and create a new chapter in Alabama's transit history," said Ann Dawson-August.
She is expected to take her post in January.
