Hundreds of families in Shelby County spent Saturday giving back to
their community. Through the "Serve Shelby" project, members of local
churches cleaned up schools, parks and homes in the area as well as
helped people in need.
Shirley Stone, director of mission involvement at Westwood Baptist
in Alabaster, helped organize the event. She says nearly 200 people
participated, that's more than double the number of participants last
year.
"If they can begin to see that the church of Christ is something
bigger than a building, then our would be a goal met," Stone says.
Members of Westwood's Alabaster, Calera and Montevallo
campuses participated, as well as Evangel Presbyterian PCA, First
Baptist Church of Alabaster, and Bethel Baptist in Columbiana. The
service stretched from Calera and Alabaster to Montevallo.
