BIRMINGHAM - AL -

Schools in our area are celebrating International Walk to School Day. Kids in grades K-thru-Eight, parents, teachers and community leaders will walk and bike to and from school to promote pedestrian and bicycle safety and the health benefits of exercising.

Students and teachers of Mountain Brook Elementary and State Representative Paul DeMarco will participate in today's event to educate parents and students about pedestrian safety.

Homewood City Schools' employees will model a healthy lifestyle as they meet at their schools and walk together to enjoy coffee at a participating "Cup for a Buck" coffee locations.  If HCS employees wear their Walk to School t-shirts, participating coffee shops will give them a cup of coffee for a dollar.

The group will meet in front of the playground at Shades Cahaba Elementary School at 6:30 a.m. as they walk to O'Henry's in downtown Homewood for their "Cup for a Buck."

Be sure and take extra precautions as you drive in to work because there will be more pedestrians on the roads.
