The two suspects arrested in Ensley on Tuesday evening have been identified and it has been determined that one of the men was inside the car that struck and killed a family of three last night during a police chase.

LaJuan Dontell McNeal and Jeffrey Howe were taken into custody from a home located at 1606 42nd Street after a K-9 unit from the Birmingham Police Department and members of the Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force forced their way in following the suspects refusal to open the door.

McNeal was first removed from the home, but authorities say he was not involved in the accident last night.  He is being taken to police headquarters for questioning, and may be charged with hindering prosecution.

Officers then took Howe to an awaiting police vehicle, and officials believe he was inside the car involved in the fatal wreck last night.

Earlier on Tuesday, a 20-year-old suspect, Dominique Rashad Smith, surrendered to police for his involvement in the crash before being taken to Cooper Green Hospital to treat injuries he sustained on Monday night.
