BIRMINGHAM - AL -

How far would you walk to end poverty? Sunday, many people answered that question in the rain.

Birmingham, Jefferson County, and state leaders, as well as people across the country, walked around Railroad Park to raise awareness and money about global poverty. Nearly two thousand people helped raised 300 thousand dollars at the Partnership Walk.

Mayor William Bell says it's important for Birmingham to do its part in ending poverty.

"Often times we think that we're the only city or country that have problems on the global bases but really this exist all over the world," said Mayor Bell.

The walk is an initiative of the Aga Khan Foundation USA. 100 percent of the funds will go directly to reducing poverty, hunger and poor health in Asia and Africa.
