Five-star running back Derrick Henry commits to Alabama over Tennessee

Another five-star is rolling with the Tide.

Five-star running back Derrick Henry from Yulee, Florida committed to Nick Saban and the University of Alabama over Tennessee and Georgia on Friday.

His decision came as no surprise as rumors have been swirling for weeks that Alabama was leading for his signature, but some thought the opportunity to be the feature back for the Volunteers may sway his decision to Knoxville.

For Henry, the choice was easy after watching Mark Ingram, Trent Richardson and now Eddie Lacy and T.J. Yeldon enjoy so much success running the ball in Alabama's offense over the past four years.  Not to mention, Ingram and Richardson were both first-round NFL Draft picks.

"I just feel like I have a chance to be very successful at that program on the field and off the field." Henry said. "They have been superior at my position and superior in the SEC over the last three or four years. It's looking good at Alabama and I'm just ready to get down there and get to work."

Henry, who measures 6-foot-3, 240 pounds, broke the Florida state record for rushing yards in a single game last week after he ran wild for a jaw-dropping 502 yards and six touchdowns in Yulee's 48-27 victory over Andrew Jackson High out of Jacksonville.  With the performance, he now has rushed for 9,255 yards in his career, making him the state's second all-time leading rusher in history.

It just so happens that the guy he passed last week is none other than the NFL's all-time leading rusher and 2010 Hall of Fame inductee, Emmitt Smith of Escambia High in Pensacola.  Smith rushed for 8,804 yards in high school before going on to have one of the single-greatest careers in professional sports history.  The former Cowboys' star set the NFL record for rushing yards with 18,355 and he also holds the records for most career rushing touchdowns (164) and most career 100-yard rushing games (78).

With Henry's commitment, Alabama now has three highly-ranked running backs in their 2013 recruiting class that ranks No. 2 nationally.  Tyren Jones of Marietta, Ga. and Altee Tenpenny of North Little Rock, Ark. have been committed for months now, but Saban's latest commit is by far the biggest, both literally and figuratively.
