ALDOT conducting emergency sign removal on I 65

Posted: Updated:

Linda Crocket, with the Alabama Department of Transportation, has informed ABC 33/40 that because of damage from a wreck to the support pole, ALDOT will perform emergency removal of the overhead electronic message sign on I 65 near exit 267, the Walker Chapel Road exit.

Starting at 10:30PM, Tuesday night, a rolling roadblock will be used to temporarily stop traffic on I-65 southbound while a crane is used to remove the electronic sign from the overhead sign bridge truss.

Wednesday, September 26, at approximately 9:30 a.m. the overhead sign bridge truss and upright columns will be removed using similar methods.

Motorists are requested to consider using alternate routes, adjust arrival/departure times, observe work zone speed limits and other work zone signs, and use extreme caution in this area. ALDOT thanks motorists for their patience during this Maintenance Operation to improve Alabama's roadways.
