American Red Cross to help Alabamians get prepared for next disaster

Posted: Updated:

The American Red Cross wants you to "Be Ready" for the next natural disaster.

It has emergency kits, first aid kits, radios and much more for people to purchase ahead of the next disaster.

The American Red Cross in Birmingham also has several events planned to help Alabamians get prepared.

On October 4, 2012, it will host "Community Day" at Linn Park.  Several agencies that offer emergency-related services will be on hand.  Anyone can attend the event and visit the agencies to see what they offer.

On October 13, 2012, The American Red Cross will host a community resilience seminar in Pleasant Grove.

You may recall that Pleasant Grove was one of the cities hit hard by the April 27, 2011 tornado outbreak.

"There are a lot of families, a lot of children who are having a tough time emotionally with storms that may be present or the threat of weather," says Chris Osborne with the American Red Cross.

The community resilience seminar will help families cope with that stress and give them the tools they need to be prepared for the next disaster.
