Auburn defensive end Dee Ford ready for "prime time" game against LSU, Mettenberger

Posted: Updated:

Auburn's talented defensive end, Dee Ford, said on Tuesday that it's time for his team to take their play to another level because "it's LSU week".

"This is what we came to Auburn for. Prime time," Ford said. "This is the week where we really forget about the past.  We're 1-2, so what? The way I'm approaching this week, everything's got to go up a notch. Great players have to show up."

Last year, after three games, Ford was preparing for season-ending back surgery.  This year, he's healthy and itching to get after LSU's not-so-mobile quarterback Zach Mettenberger.

"When you're facing a mobile quarterback, you have to bull rush the whole game," Ford said. "That's not fun. I'm not saying [Mettenberger] isn't mobile; I think he can move a little bit. He's nothing like Boyd or the quarterback (Browning) from last week. I can pin my ears back this week."

Since the Georgia transfer's arrival in Baton Rouge last year, fans have touted Mettenberger as the next Tom Brady.  While the first-year starter has shown flashes of extraordinary talent, he is still learning on the fly, committing some mistakes along the way.

As for Ford, he said the Tigers' signal-caller is just like any other quarterback he is trying to sack.

"They say he's a good quarterback. I really don't know much about him. He's just like any other quarterback to me," Ford said. "I'm still trying to kill him. From what I see on film, he's a great quarterback. He's smart, but you never know what you're going to get in an SEC game."

Auburn head coach Gene Chizik will need to get an out-of-this-world performance from his team to have any chance in pulling off the upset over Les Miles' No. 2 team in America.

But like Ford said, you never know in the SEC.  This is especially true with the presence of a grass-grazing Miles coaching on the sidelines.
